Purple Pumpkin Campaign

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time when communities across Indiana and the nation unite to support survivors and educate the public about domestic violence prevention and resources. At Hope's Voice, we're proud to participate in the Purple Pumpkin Campaign to bring visibility to this critical issue affecting our community.

About Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Established in 1987, Domestic Violence Awareness Month highlights the urgent need for support services while honoring survivors and those who have lost their lives to domestic violence. Statistics show that every minute, approximately 24 people experience rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States.

  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence

  • Only 47% of domestic violence incidents are reported to law enforcement

  • 98% of victims experience financial abuse as a form of control

The Purple Pumpkin Campaign

Why Purple? Purple has been the nationally recognized color for domestic violence awareness since the first Domestic Violence Day of Unity in October 1981, symbolizing peace, courage, survival, honor, and dedication to ending violence.

Our Community Initiative. The Purple Pumpkin is more than decoration, it's a powerful symbol of support for survivors of domestic violence and a beacon of hope in our community. Each purple pumpkin represents our collective commitment to breaking the silence surrounding domestic violence and demonstrates that survivors are not alone.

When you see a purple pumpkin displayed at local businesses, organizations, and community locations throughout Knox and Daviess County, you're witnessing our community's unified stand against domestic violence.

These symbols serve multiple purposes:
